Fragile Existence

'Fragile Existence' Unveils the Art of Connection and Vulnerability. This insightful new art exhibition explores the vital themes of coexistence and fragility. Opening on 21 November at 7 pm, and running until 25 November, this exhibition showcases the innovative talents of artists Hedayat Taymour and Karen Williams.

In an era where the fragility of life and the environment is under the spotlight, Taymour and Williams deliver a compelling dialogue through their intricate artworks. "Their collaborative journey began at the Heatherley School of Fine Art, where a shared space fuelled their exploration of existential themes, resulting in a profound and interconnected body of work,” noted Taya Elzayadi, the show’s curator.

Since relocating to the United Kingdom eleven years ago, Hedayat has embraced sculpture, drawing from her past and new experiences. Her works connect viewers with ancestral legacies, bridging historical and contemporary existence. Her piece, Djed-Ety Totem, pays homage to lineage and influence. “My work communicates shared human experiences—motherhood, friendships, displacement, and isolation,” explains Hedayat.

“These universal themes resonate regardless of one’s background or identity.” Karen offers a powerful commentary on environmental vulnerability, motivated by her ocean conservation experiences. Using found materials, her creations like Octopus address marine threats while celebrating resilience and personal connections. “I want my art to challenge viewers by repurposing everyday items into important symbols,” Karen states. “The dematerialisation of an object can change our perception.”

'Fragile Existence' not only highlights the unique artistic perspectives of these two artists but also invites reflection on our shared narratives and the interconnectedness of our world.
