Made by Human

23 October - 29 October 2024

New technologies are changing the way we experience art. This body of work highlights the vital role of human creativity and hand-crafted art. Trained abstract artist Luke Maund creates bold, vibrant and contemporary paintings from his studio in West London. His unique aesthetic is achieved through unconventional acrylic pouring techniques.

'Just as items manufactured in China bear the stamp 'MADE IN CHINA', it feels as though we are approaching a time when if something is made by an actual human being, we ought to say so. Keeping human's innate creativity in mind, I've concentrated on utilizing forms that feel natural, organic, and familiar. Paired with a vibrant palette of primary colors evoking a sense of joy and nostalgia.

No paintbrushes or stencils. The vibrant colors, sharp edges, and organic shapes are achieved by meticulously pouring and layering multiple coats of liquid acrylic. For the final touch, I coat the paintings in epoxy resin introducing a 3D element to the artwork. The end product could only have been made by hand and is best appreciated in real life.

New technologies like generative Al are changing how we experience art in all forms. However, 'Art' created by these technologies lacks the real essence found in human experiences and emotions. It doesn't come from a real place. Without genuine stories, we as viewers can't connect with the work as deeply. It won't mean as much and we'll all be missing out. Authenticity comes from human creativity, not machines. So, let's value human creativity above all.' Luke Maund

The PV will take place 24 October from 6 pm to 9.30 pm.
